Welcome to KindieComm 2015

Robert Drake here …

Hot on the heels of a successful  inaugural KindieComm 2014, we surveyed all attendees to gather their thoughts and opinions and spent time discussing ways we can tweak our creation to make it even better! After receiving a record number of submissions for the KindieComm 2015 Showcase, we’ve selected our lineup, notified the artists and will announce the Showcase lineup later this week. We’re finalizing Breakout Sessions as well – those too should be confirmed and announced before the upcoming holiday break.

Folks who joined us in June 2014 know what to expect: a day of socializing, networking and growth – capped with a night of great live music! Additionally, we will again offer a public concert on Sunday and offer tickets to that as well.

In true Kids Corner fashion,  KindieComm will stress an interactive atmosphere, starting with a free continental breakfast & free coffee/tea all day – plus cash bar all day. Breakout sessions will book-end the KindieComm Free Lunch at Noon. Following a comfortable dinner break, we’ll gather again for the nighttime KindieComm 2015 Showcase at World Cafe Live!

As with KindieComm 2014, we’ve designed these breakout sessions to be less of a formal panel and more of an interactive conversation moderated by two or three people. We believe this format increases the flow of ideas and creativity within each session. Per your suggestions, we moved some of the sessions to a larger space than we used in June (complete with microphones) so now both breakout sessions will be amplified.

For attendees arriving in Philadelphia the night before, we’re hosting a casual Happy Hour Friday afternoon (4-7pm) to mix and mingle. The KindieComm 2015 registration table will be open as well – so you can check in and get your name badge. We’ll have a list of nearby spots where you can dine afterward.

We’ll be producing the 2015 Kids Corner MusicFest showcase for the general public on Sunday, March 22 (11am-1pm) at World Cafe Live featuring performances by The Pop Ups, Joanie Leeds and the Nightlights as well as The Not-Its! Tickets to Sunday’s show are separate from your registration and you can reserve yours ($15 per) when you register for KindieComm 2015.

Returning by popular request will be the KindieComm Mailroom – a designated area where Kindie artists can drop off their latest CDs, media kits and more to Kindie media folk attending KindieComm . This area will be staffed all day long and equipped with extra pens/paper for personalized notes you might want to include with your items. The purpose of the Mailroom is to relieve the stress of hunting down every broadcaster and blogger in attendance. By utilizing this free service, everyone can relax and make the most of their KindieComm experience!

We’ll also have the KindieComm FREEBIE table – where you can place CDs, posters and other marketing info for attendees to pick up at their leisure.

Early Bird Registration for KindieComm 2015 (until February 21) is just $75 – after that, registration for KindieComm 2015 is $90.

(registration includes free continental breakfast and a free box lunch)

2015 KindieComm Industry Showcase

World Cafe Live in Philadelphia

World Cafe Live in Philadelphia

As part of our next KindieComm, we are excited to host the 2015 KindieComm Industry Showcase – Saturday, March 21 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia – starting 8pm.

The Industry Showcase will continue the tradition of being basically a party for people doing music for families, with dozens of musicians gathering together to play for each other and folks in the industry. Held within the beautiful World Cafe Live venue, which was built from the ground-up with the musician in mind – the showcase is a chance to celebrate the wild, wonderful world of Kindie!

We will have a dozen slots available – each 15 minutes in length (3 per hour, with a bit of buffer for changeovers) … if you would like to be considered for the 2015 Industry Showcase, simply complete this form; include your name, your band/performance name, email and website. Make sure the website has access to audio files that showcase your music.

Our hope is to have the Industry Showcase booked and artists announced by December 12, 2014. This page will transform into a listing of the performers (featuring web links etc), to give you a sample of what to expect Saturday night!

Thank You!

Thanks to the over 200 friends (and we mean friends!) who joined us for the inaugural edition of KindieComm!

As detailed as KindieComm’ producer Robert Drake is when creating an event, this past weekend would have been a bust had it not been for YOU.

Special thanks to the musicians, the breakout leaders and the volunteers for bringing their A-Game for a whirlwind weekend of conversation and song.

We’ve just sent out a KindieComm Questionnaire that will allow you to submit your thoughts about the weekend. If, for some reason the email doesn’t reach you directly thanks to spam filters, or perhaps you are with a band that performed (we only sent it to the leader of the group)  feel free to use the link below and share it with your bandmates.

Your feedback will help us create an even FUNNER (yes, we said funner!) KindieComm next year: March 21/22 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia …

Much Love – truly.

KindieComm Press

Kids Corner producer Robert Drake and host Kathy O’Connell – the curators of KindieComm

Thanks to the folks at the Philadelphia Inquirer (writer a.d. Amorosi and photographer Clem Murray) for such wonderful coverage of our upcoming KindieComm weekend! Being able to create this gathering has been a true labor of love for us and we are humbled that so many friends of Kindie have registered to join us this Saturday. If you haven’t yet registered, you can do so below.

It ain’t about juice boxes and bunnies.

This weekend, Kids Corner debuts KindieComm at World Cafe Live, a showcase for “kindie” music (independent music for today’s kids), a surprisingly complex sound that applies singer-songwriter tools to themes crucial to listeners 10 and under. It’s a gathering of independent kindie-biz types, musicians, and groupies.

Arriving To KindieComm

bannerRegistrationAs the days dwindle down, to a precious few – before we all gather for a wonderful time at the inaugural KindieComm … a few random things:

Metered parking is available on the streets around the venue – it’s kiosk-driven (see here for an explanation: http://www.visitphilly.com/parking) … additionally, there is a parking lot underneath Walnut Street, run by the University of Pennsylvania.  To access it from Walnut Street, simply travel west to 32nd Street, make a right and go one block to Chestnut Street. You’ll notice that many of our streets are one way, so it’s hard to get ‘truly’ lost.

Once on Chestnut, travel east to 31st Street – it’s immediately after the railroad track underpass. Turn right onto 31st Street and go to the end of the street – the parking lot is straight ahead. You can enter World Cafe Live from their downstairs entrance – adjacent to the concrete staircase that takes folks up to Walnut Street. The downstairs entrance has both a World Cafe Live and WXPN sign above it as well as the words “Donor Alley”  (commemorating all the listeners of WXPN that donated to help us build this building back in 2004).

Whether you enter downstairs or through the main entrance on Walnut Street, just follow the signs to the KindieComm Registration/Check-In table. Here you’ll be able to get your KindieComm name badge, KindieComm program guide and answers to any question you might have. For those last-minute arrivals, we will be set up to process walk-up registrations on Saturday at the same $90 registration price.

free-coffeeA complimentary continental breakfast will be available; including a selection of danish, muffins, and bagels (accompanied by butter and cream cheese), fresh fruit (both cut up and whole) and a selection of fruit juices (orange, cranberry, and grapefruit). This breakfast will be available from 9-11am.

Starting at 9am KindieComm will also provide FREE regular & decaffeinated coffee, assorted herbal teas and pitchers of ice water throughout the day (until 4:30pm).

The fully-stocked bar will be open in the main venue of World Cafe Live from 9am-5pm and again 7:30pm until 11:45pm and can handle both cash and credit cards.

As for your complimentary KindieComm Box Lunch – it will be assorted sandwiches (roast beef or hummus or chicken salad), a bag of chips, whole fruit, cookie and a can of soda. Please let a World Cafe Live server know if you have dietary restrictions and they will work to help accommodate you as best as possible.

At the KindieComm Registration / Check-In table you’ll find a list of dining options that are nearby to consider for the dining break (5-8pm).  As of now, the weather forecast looks wonderful – sunny skies and a high in the low 80s – so walking to/from the Sheraton University City hotel will be a breeze!

Oh, and yes – World Cafe Live does offer free WIFI within the venue … however, as is true with most free WIFI, it’s not the greatest signal in the world – but it’s there if needed.

Finally, for those who purchased ticket(s) to Sunday’s public show when you registered, your name will be at the Will Call table Sunday morning – doors open at 10:30am – music starts at 11am. If you didn’t purchase a ticket, have no fear – you can purchase them at the door Sunday morning – just $15 each to enjoy Trout Fishing In America, Dan Zanes, Lucky Diaz, Jennifer Gasoi and Justin Roberts. The show should be over around 1pm – for those trying to map out their travel home Sunday afternoon.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this weekend at KindieComm!
